The Department formulates and reviews policies and legislation on Green Economy and Climate Change. It shall also be responsible for programs and projects in order to promote investment in economic activities that are low carbon, resource efficient and socially inclusive.
The department performs the following specific functions:
- Formulate and review of policies and legislation on Green Economy and, climate change.
- Mainstream Climate Change and Green Economy into sectorial policies, projects and programs in order to ensure sustainability;
- Conduct research on climate change and Green economy in order to facilitate informed decision making;
- Conduct education and public awareness programs in order to build resilience to climate change communities;
- Promote and coordinate bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation in natural Green Economy and Climate Change in order to promote Zambia’s interest and meet international obligations
- Monitor and evaluate the implementation of Green Economy and Climate Change programs in order to recommend appropriate interventions and ensure attainment of set goals;
- Promote climate resilience and green economy methods through investments in low carbon and resource efficient economic activities;
- Conduct capacity building for communities and other relevant stakeholders on Green Economy and Climate Change to enhance sustainability
